Learning objectives
  • Identify Environmental and Social Performance Standard (ESPS) 6 on Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Management of Living Natural Resources and its changes compared to Guideline B9 of the OP-703 Safeguards Policy, in order to adapt project management regarding biodiversity, ecosystem services, and living natural resources.
  • Define what ecosystem services are and the requirements for protecting those that are priority, in order to manage project impacts following the mitigation hierarchy.
  • Differentiate protections for modified, natural, and critical habitats, legally protected areas, and internationally recognized areas, in order to assess how to manage biodiversity in project-affected areas.
  • Use relevant and credible standards to sustainably manage agriculture, livestock, forestry production, and other living natural resources, in accordance with Performance Standard 6 on Biodiversity.
  • Recognize the elements that make up a biodiversity report.
  • Analyze guidelines to prevent sourcing from areas at risk of significant habitat conversion.
