Gobierno de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires
QuarkID is an open-source self-sovereign digital identity protocol, developed by the Secretariat of Innovation and Digital Transformation of the Government of the City of Buenos Aires together with Extrimian and the Latin American expert community. It allows people to have all their credentials and documents in one place, with a security anchor through the ZKsync blockchain (Ethereum Layer 2). It is decentralized, public, permissionless, interoperable, and multichain. Buenos Aires became the first city in the world to incorporate blockchain into its digital identity system through the integration of QuarkID with miBA, benefiting over 3.6 million users.
QuarkID solves problems of fraud, identity theft, and credential forgery by decentralizing the storage of personal data. It eliminates intermediaries in document verification, reduces bureaucratic costs, and allows citizens to reveal only the data necessary for each transaction through zero-knowledge proofs.
Creates a unique decentralized identifier (DID) for each user, anchored on the ZKsync blockchain. Personal information is stored only on the user's device (off-chain), not on the blockchain. Allows public and private organizations to issue verifiable credentials that users store in their mobile wallet. Uses zero-knowledge proofs to verify credentials without exposing personal data. It is multichain and supports Ethereum, Polygon, ZKsync, and Rootstock.
Follows international self-sovereign identity standards: W3C (DID, VC), IETF, DIF, Trust over IP, and OpenID. Uses public permissionless blockchain (ZKsync, Ethereum Layer 2) with zero-knowledge proofs (zk-proofs) to ensure privacy and security. It is interoperable with other decentralized identity protocols.
