Aprenderia is an educational app that, from a pedagogical perspective, is based on the adaptation of analogical methods developed by experts at the Catholic University of Uruguay, based on structured and progressive teaching, ensuring solid and meaningful learning. It features four activity modules, each represented by a neighborhood in the magical world of Aprenderia. In the first module, the activities address vocabulary and its context, phoneme and grapheme knowledge, and word reading. These initial literacy content areas progress to the final modules, which present activities that involve reading and writing short texts and completing reading comprehension tasks. In this way, the app progressively stimulates the learning process throughout the entire school year.
The PISA-D (2018) results reinforce the widespread portrayal of low performance, inequity, and lack of access to quality education in Latin America and the Caribbean. One of the areas that shows particular lag is Spanish literacy learning, a skill that has proven to be key and determines achievement in later stages of girls' and boys' education. Unlike what has happened in the area of mathematics, where initiatives adapted to the Latin American context have been developed in the last decade, there are few platforms for learning the Spanish language that can be implemented by the region's education systems. This was identified in a survey conducted by the Ceibal Foundation with public policymakers from several countries (Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay).
The tool works on Android devices, version 9 and higher. It was developed specifically for Ceibal devices (Uruguay). Although it has not been optimized for other hardware, its design considers its use on devices with other features. The application has two types of narratives: one optimized for low-connectivity scenarios and low-performance devices, and another with video animations. By default, the application uses the animations that consume the least resources. This version does not include usage statistics reporting, as this requires an authentication platform and local or cloud infrastructure, which must be provided and managed by each implementation.
