BA Obras
What is it?

BA Obras is a digital platform that offers detailed information about public works in the City of Buenos Aires. It allows users to explore projects by location, topic, progress status, and access data on costs, start and finish dates, as well as view photos and videos of progress. This tool has been developed by the Government of the City of Buenos Aires and is used to improve transparency and access to information on urban infrastructure. Currently, its use is expanding to other Argentine municipalities and Latin American cities such as San Pablo in Brazil and San Pedro Garza GarcĂa in Mexico, facilitating the management and communication of public works projects.

What problems does it solve?

BA Obras addresses the challenges associated with urban development, such as managing multiple infrastructure projects, tracking progress, and ensuring transparency in the allocation of public funds. Empowers public managers to streamline project management processes and engage with citizens through transparent reporting.

How does the tool work?

Project Dashboard: BA Obras provides a comprehensive dashboard to monitor all ongoing infrastructure projects, offering a clear overview of timelines, budgets, and milestones. Transparency and Accountability: The platform allows for real-time tracking of project expenses and allocations, ensuring transparency in the use of public funds. Collaborative Workspaces: Public servants and stakeholders can collaborate within the platform, sharing updates, documents, and project-specific information. Public Engagement: BA Obras includes features for citizen engagement, such as project updates and public comment sections, promoting open dialogue between government and citizens. GIS Integration: Geographic Information System (GIS) integration enables the mapping of projects, helping public managers make informed decisions regarding urban planning. Customizable Reporting: Users can generate customizable reports, making it easy to communicate project progress to various stakeholders. Open Source: BA Obras is open source, fostering collaboration and customization to fit the unique needs of city governments

Open standards

Built with AngularJS, the architecture is organized into controllers, views, and directives to maintain modular code. Utilizes Grunt tasks to automate and optimize development. Loads datasets in CSV format and visualizes geographic data in GeoJSON, ensuring interoperability and open formats. Incorporates multiple configuration files like .BowerRC and .EditorConfig to ensure a consistent development environment. Uses Karma for unit testing, enhancing code quality.
