European Digital Identity Cooperation Group

The EU Digital Identity Wallet is a regulatory proposal that seeks to implement a trusted, user-controlled digital identity in Europe. This tool will allow citizens to manage their online interactions and monitor the use of their personal data, facilitating access to public and private services via their smartphones. It is expected that by 2030, 100% of European Union citizens will adopt this solution. Although it has not yet been adopted, other electronic identity mechanisms have been in use since 2016. The proposal includes a recommendation for a coordinated approach and a common framework across the EU, with a first version of the architecture published on GitHub.
The EUDI Wallet tool solves the problem of secure and reliable digital identification for citizens and businesses in Europe. It allows users to control their online interactions and monitor the use of their personal data, facilitating secure and convenient access to public and private services.
The EUDI Wallet tool allows European citizens to manage their digital identity securely and conveniently through their smartphones. It facilitates digital identification for accessing public and private services, such as travel, healthcare, and education, ensuring control over the use of their personal data.
The EU Digital Identity Wallet uses open standards such as ISO 18013-5 for electronic health certificates, OpenID for Verifiable Credential Issuance (OID4VCI), OpenID for Verifiable Presentations (OID4VP), and Self-Issued OpenID Provider v2 (SIOPv2). These standards ensure interoperability and security.
